Vimeo released short film `Daag` for all

Bengali short-film Daag, based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh, had its premiere at the short film corner of the 70th Cannes Film Festival 2017 in France. Though three years have already passed this film has not been seen from Bangladesh yet. But now an opportunity has come to the viewers of the country.
Vimeo, one of the world’s leading professional video platforms, released the short film in its website on May 1 this year. So anyone from anywhere of the world can witness the film following on-demand-rental system. One viewer has to pay only one US dollar for this.
The movie was released through internet under an initiative named ‘film for humanity’ organized in order to enrich a fund for helping the poor and helpless people who have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
The total collected money will be deposited in the account of the Bidyanondo Foundation, educational voluntary organization in Bangladesh.
Featuring Sharmin Joha Soshe, Shatabdi Wadud and Bakar Bakul in lead roles, Daag, a 13-minute short film, narrates the story of a freedom fighter Shila, who was violated by a Pakistani collaborator Khayer, and takes revenge eight years after.
The film takes the viewers back to 1979, eight years after the liberation war. War collaborator Khayer, who also killed Shila’s father during the war, forgot the girl whom he raped in 1971.
To take her revenge, Shila marries Khayer against the wishes of her family and on the night of the wedding she kills Khayer.
