The 49th Victory Day was celebrated by Bangladesh mission in Beijing on Monday amid much fanfare and festivity. The day’s programme began with hoisting of national flag by Bangladesh Ambassador to China Mahbub Uz Zaman and playing national anthem on the Embassy premises in the morning, said a press release received here on Tuesday. A special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of the Father of the Nation and members of his family who were assassinated on August 15, 1975, the four national leaders and martyred freedom fighters.
Later a documentary titled “How we achieved freedom” was screened. In the afternoon, the celebration programme started with one minute silence in honor of the martyrs of the war of liberation, where messages from president, prime minister, minister and state minister for foreign affairs were read out.
Bangladesh Ambassador recalled how Bangladesh emerged as an independent country under the leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through a nine-month long war of independence. Later, a colorful cultural programme featuring musicals of liberation war, patriotic songs and recitation of poetry were staged.
