Family members of the victims of gruesome seven-murder incident are annoyed for not putting Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the sensational murder case, on remand.
They, however, are in doubt whether any quarter is working for not unmasking names of masterminds of the murders.
Selina Islam Beauty, wife of slain councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Nazrul Islam, on Friday demanded police remand for Nur Hossain to identify others behind
the gruesome murders. She made the demand following Nur Hossain’s deportation from India to Bangladesh. “Interrogate him (Nur Hossain) to know who else are linked to my husband’s murder and others. Identify the masterminds behind the incident,” she told reporters in Naraynganj before producing the prime accused in a court there.
Police did not apply for the remand after produced Nur Hossain before the court in the afternoon. The court sent him to jail.
It was alleged that Nur Hossain, who was also a NCC councillor and leader of ruling Awami League, had bribed the RAB to murder councillor Nazrul Islam and the six others on April 27, 2014. Finger was also pointed at other influential AL leaders.
Three RAB officials — Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana — were sacked for allegedly executing the killings in exchange for money.
Shahidul Islam alias Shahid chairman, father-in-law of Nazrul Islam, alleged that some officials of elite force killed Nazrul Islam in exchange for Tk 6 crore from NCC councillor Nur Hossain. He said that alongside the matter, names of masterminds of the murders would also come out if Nur Hossain could be taken in remand. Expressing annoyance for not applying for remand, he urged the authorities to put the prime accused on remand.
Mizanur Rahman Ripon, brother of another victim Moniruzzaman Swapan, also wanted remand for Nur Hossian. “Nur Hossain’s relation with RAB did not develop in a day. So the masterminds and the killers must be identified by interrogating him,” he said. SP of Narayanganj Dr Khandoker Muhid Uddin said that there is no scope to take Nur Hossain on remand or make any confessional statements to this end stage of the seven-murder case, as charge-sheet has already been submitted before the court. Detective Branch Inspector Mamunur Rashid, the case investigating officer, had submitted the charge-sheet naming 35 people in April this year.
Selina Islam Beauty filed a no-confidence petition against the charge-sheet, as it had dropped the names of some of the accused. The court, however, rejected her petition.
Following the rejection, Beauty filed revision with Narayanganj district and sessions’ judge court which was also rejected by the court on November 9. She alleged that the investigating officer has not mentioned names of the masterminds in the charge-sheet.
When Nur Hossain was brought to the court on Friday, hundreds of people from all walks of life started chanting slogans demanding capital punishment for the accused. The crowd showed sandals condemning Nur Hossain. They demanded that Nur Hossain and other killers be sent to the gallows.
