Medical negligence of Popular Hospital at Dhanmondi caused the death of a patient, claimed the deceased’s relatives.
Eighty-year-old Raushan Ali Sikder, an resident of Narayanganj, was admitted to Dhanmondi’s Popular Hospital on July 10 with cough and asthma symptoms. After primary examinations, the doctor said that he was corona positive. Then treatment was begun.
But, Raushan Ali died last Friday, after 15 days of admission in the hospital. By this, time about Tk five lakh was taken step by step as the ICU and the various pathological tests charges. After the death, it was reported that the patient did not have corona. As a result the relatives complained about what treatment was given and why Tk five lakh was taken?
Relatives also complained that the dead body was left outside the hospital after receiving bill amount
When the police were informed , the body was taken to the morgue of the hospital.
When asked about the allegations, the hospital authorities claimed that despite all the symptoms, corona did not appear in test apparently. And finally it was not possible to save Raushan Ali due to various other complications.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased have lodged a complaint against the Popular Hospital with Dhanmondi Police Station.
But when asked, the OC Ikram Ali Miah of Dhanmondi Police Station said “We have not yet got any written complaint from the victim’s relatives.
Earlier, during a virtual hearing, the Court asked the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to take necessary steps so the patients, who are deprived of proper that treatment at any hospital, can lodge complaints with the office concerned through email.
People also can lodge complaints with the Anti-Corruption Commission if hospitals charged extra bills for the oxygen cylinders, the court said.
It is mentionable that last year; a mobile court fined Tk 50,000 to the city’s Popular Diagnostic Centre in Dhanmondi for charging inflated fees in various diagnostic tests.
