Verdict against suspended DIG Bazlur Rashid Oct 23

A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed October 23 to deliver judgment against suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid in connection with a case filed for amassing Tk 3.08 crore beyond his known sources of income.
After closing arguments, Judge Md Iqbal Hossain of the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka fixed the date for delivery of the verdict in the case. During yesterday’s argument, ACC Public Prosecutor
 Mosharraf Hossain Kajol told the court the charges brought against the accused were primarily proven. So, he sought highest punishment for the accused. While the defense sought acquittal of their client saying that the prosecution failed to prove the charges.
Earlier, the court recorded the statements of 14 prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case. The court framed charges against the accused on October 22 of 2020 in the case.
ACC Deputy Director Md Nasir Uddin who is also the Investigation Officer of the case submitted the charge sheet of the case to the Senior Special Judge Court of Dhaka on August 26 of the same year.
The ACC arrested Bazlur Rashid in the case, filed with ACC’s Integrated District Office-1 of Dhaka and showed him arrested in the case on October 20, 2020. The following day, the Home Ministry suspended him from service.
According to the case statement, Bazlur Rashid signed a contract with a real estate company in 2018 to buy a flat in the capital’s Siddeshwari Road area at Tk 3.09 crore.
From April 20, 2018 to June 7 of the same year, Bazlur Rashid paid Tk 3.08 crore in cash and cheque, but during ACC officials’ interrogation, he could not allegedly show any legal source of the money.
