Attorney General Mahbubey Alam on Thursday said the verdict delivered in Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case is a “milestone”.
“Necessary steps will be taken to place the appeal and death references at the High Court bench concerned,” he told reporters at his office, expressing satisfaction with the verdict.
A tribunal in Feni sentenced 16 people to death for their roles in killing Nusrat. Now the subordinate court will send the death reference copy to the High Court for approval.

Alim (equivalent to HSC) examinee Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was set afire in Sonagazi upazila of Feni on April 6, and she succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit on April 10.
Rafi, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, was set afire a few minutes before her examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Sirajuddoula after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
The trial proceedings in the case were finished within seven months.
