Sylhet Correspondent :

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) has launched a drive against the vehicles run using fake ‘press’ and ‘journalist’ stickers to arrest the fake journalists for curbing crimes in the city.
Sources at the DMP said a large number of motorcycles and other vehicles with stickers like ‘press’ or ‘journalist’ are plying the city streets whereas the owners of most of such vehicles are not journalists and they do not have any license either. Criminals are committing many crimes by using these stickers in the city. Earlier, during the political unrest last year, police arrested a Shibir activist in possession of a motorbike with such fake sticker when he attacked police from a procession and the vehicle had no legal documents. Under the circumstance, the journalist leaders of Sylhet urged the SMP authorities to take initiative to curb the practice of using fake stickers of press on vehicles in the city. Following the request, SMP has launched the drive against the vehicles run using journalists’ fake identities.
The drive will be conducted in the areas under six police stations to control crimes by using the vehicles with such fake stickers,
SMP Commissioner Mizanur Rahman told journalists at a views-exchange meeting held at the SMP Headquarters in the city on Sunday. Journalist leaders at the meeting said the motorbikes using ‘press’ and ‘journalist’ stickers have increased and most of them are fake and urged SMP to arrest these fake journalists.
Sylhet Press Club President Iqbal Siddiquee, Press Club Foundation President Al-Azad and journalist Iqramul Kabir Equ spoke at the meeting, among others.
