Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said no syndication will be allowed in Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
“Our major challenge is to bring discipline in highways,” he said while addressing a programme marking the inauguration of providing vehicle fitness certificate in a digital system at BRTA’s Mirpur office.
From now on, fitness certificates for vehicles will be provided in a digital system instead of the manual one.
To this end, the government has set up a Vehicle Inspection Centre (VIC) in Mirpur at a cost of Tk 24.18 crore.
The minister said corruption will come down alongside ensuring transparency following the introduction of the digital system for providing vehicle certificates.
He also said VICs will be established in every division and district gradually.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Road Transport and Bridges Ministry M Akabbar Hossain, Kamal Ahmed Majumdar, MP, Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Ahn Seong-Doo and Country Director of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Bangladesh Office Joe Hyun-Gue were, among others, present on the occasion.
