Vegetable price drops, fishes in upward trend in Ctg market

Prices of the vegetables dropped to some extents on high supply of the winter vegetables to Chittagong kitchen markets recently but the prices of local and sea fishes on upward trend beside steady prices of meat and poultry chicken.
 The prices of all varieties of vegetables fallen by Tk 15 to 20 per kg, and even more in some cases, within a week.The prices eased for the first time after they had soared since the beginning of August due to heavy rainfall s across the country.
 On Friday, supply of winter vegetables at Reazuddin Bazar and Kazir Deurhi Bazar was high.
 Bismillah Banijyaloy’s employee Shahin Mia told that winter vegetables started coming in from northern districts to wholesale market Reazuddin Bazar and that had affected prices of other vegetables, too.Retail prices, however, were more than double the prices at the wholesale markets.The wholesale price of cabbage was Tk 15 a kg, but it was Tk 50 to 60 in the retail shops. The price was Tk 80 last week.Bitter gourd was being sold at Tk 40 per kg at the wholesale shops, but Tk 60 at the retail shops.The price of bean dropped sharply to Tk 50 to 60 a kg from last week’s Tk 120. The wholesale price was Tk 23 per kg.The customers were complaining about the differences in the wholesale and retail prices.The price of radish was Tk 30 to 40 a kg, cabbage Tk 40 and cauliflower Tk 40 to 50.
Retailer Md Shahed said the retail prices were high as they had to discard rotten vegetables after buying them from the wholesalers, where they could not choose and pick.
The prices of sweet water fishes comparatively higher than the sea fishes. The local varieties of Rui, Katal, molla fishes are being sold beyond the buying capacity of common people but the hatchery fishes are steady . The sea fishes like popa, koral, surma, prices remained steady but the p;rices of pompret , hilsa not less than Tk.600 to 800 subject to sizes, sellers sources said.
