VCs urged to resist militancy, terrorism

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid urged vice-chancellors (VCs) of public universities to take appropriate measures for resisting militancy and terrorism.
He made the call when a delegation of Bangladesh University Council, an organization of public university vice chancellors, called on him on Monday at his secretariat office in the city.
The vice-chancellors raised their different proposals before the minister to uphold dignities of university teachers, vice chancellors, pro-vice chancellors and treasurers as well as upgrading the education standard of the universities.
The minister gave them a patient hearing and asked the vice-chancellors to perform their duties by maintaining utmost sincerity and honesty to maintain congenial atmosphere for education at all educational institutes and also call for forging a social resistance against militancy and terrorism.
The delegation led by president of Bangladesh University Council and vice-chancellor of Moulana Bashani Science and Technology University professor Dr Mohammad Alauddin.
Dr Alauddin demanded an independent pay scale for public universities teachers and employees during the meeting.
Vice-chancellors of 38 public universities including Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh Agricultural University, and National University attended the meeting.
