A university girl committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan at their house in city’s Mirpur area early Monday.
The victim was identified as Abida Sultana, 20, a BBA student of a private university in the city. Abida daughter of Abul Kalam Azad, came from Munshiganj district, police said.
Quoting the family members, Rafiqul Islam, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Pallabi Police Station, said, “Abida
committed suicide after her father and younger brother went to a local mosque for performing Shab-e-Barat prayer at night. On returning from the mosque, her father called Abida for several times, but as there was no response from her room around 12:15am, he entered the room breaking open the door and saw her body hanging with the ceiling fan.”
Police being informed later recovered the body. The incident might have been committed over love affairs, the SI said.
A case in the name of her lover Anwar Hossain Sabuj has been filed, he said.
“We are trying to arrest the accused,” the SI said.
