UZGP basic training begins today

A five-day Basic Training on “Law and Administration of 4th Upazila Parishad” will begin today simultaneously at Dhaka, Comilla and Bogra.
The Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) under the Local Government Division (LGD) organized the training for the newly elected public representatives and government officials at Upazila levels to enhance their skills and capacity in making the Upazila Parishads (UZPs) more effective and functional. Five government training institutes-National Institute of Local Government (NILG), Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) and National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD) in Dhaka conduct the courses.

Each batch of the training composed of 40 participants from five upazilas. The participants are-chairs of Upazila Parisad (UZP), Vice-chairs, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), Agriculture Officers, Education Officers, Family Planning Officers and Engineers.
All 487 Upazila Parisads (UZPs) of the country will be covered within three to four months from beginning the training. The European Union (EU), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) provided the technical and financial assistance to the project.

The five-year project, starting from 2012, is being implemented by the Local Government Division (LGD).
