National Energy Security Day observed: Use of local coal instead of imported coal stressed

Officials of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd, an organisation of state run Patrobangla Corporation urged the people to use its locally produced coal instead of imported coal to build a prosperous country.
Marking the National Energy Security Day, the officials, staff and miners of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL) and Maddhyapara Granite Mining Company Ltd (MGMCL), two organisations of state run Patrobangla Corporation held different programmes including procession and rally on Saturday.
The rally was held at Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner office premises .
The title of programme was ‘Use coal of Barapukuria, to ensure energy security in the country.
Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur Ahmed Shamim Al Razi was present as Chief Guest at the rally. While Sirajul Islam General Manager (Administration) of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd were present among the others.
At the rally, the speakers said that the coal of BCMCL raised hope of the nation and a major portion is helping to meet the annual demands of country’s energy sector while the reserve of Gas started dimming in the country.
The BCMCL official said that the company has been produced at least 10,00,000 tones coal annually since the company started its production in 2005 officially. The produced coal has been using in brick kilns, generating power through Barapukuria 250MW coal fired power plant, different steel mills and tea factory as well.
‘The coal ultimately saved similar quantity of trees and pressure on gas’ added Sirajul Islam General Manager (Admin) of Barapkuria Coal Mining Company Ltd urging the nation to stop axing trees. He also urged the people to use locally produced coal instead of imported coal.
Sylhet Correspondent adds: The National Energy Security Day-2014 was observed in Sylhet on Saturday. Petrobangla, Sylhet Gas Fields Limited and Jalalabad Gas T&D System Limited in association with the Sylhet district administration brought out a procession from the office of district administrator in the city at 9:00am.
The procession ended with a rally at Rikabibazar after parading through the city streets.
Officials and employees of the Sylhet district administration and the three companies joined the procession.
ADM of Sylhet district administration Sheikh Motiar Rahman, General Manager (admin) of Sylhet Gas Fields Ltd. Atul Chandra Roy and General Manager (planning) of Jalalabad Gas T&D System Ltd. Engr. Md Mahbub Alam spoke at the rally.
