National Jute Day observed: Use of jute bags can bring back golden glory

Speakers here underscores for large-scale promotion of jute sacks as effective means of revitalising the lost glory of golden jute.
They viewed forging social resistance against use of plastic bags has become an urgent need for protecting the environment from further degradation. They also emphasised on wide-ranging promotion of jute bags instead of the polythene bags.
Use of plastic bags by the wholesale traders, vegetable vendors and other shops has been growing despite the ban on the use, production and storing of the environment-harming plastic bags.
The observation came at a discussion for the compulsory use of jute in packaging products held at the auditorium of Shilpakala Academy here on Monday.
The District Administration and the Department of Jute jointly organised the rally and discussion to mark the first ‘National Jute Day- 2017’.
Government and non-government officials and owners of the paddy, rice and automatic rice mills and businessmen attended the programmes.
Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Noor-Ur-Rahman addressed the discussion as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair. Project Head of Rajshahi Jute Mills Ziaul Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Shalahuddin and Assistant Director of Department of Jute Sirajul Islam also spoke.
Chief Guest Noor-Ur-Rahman said the used polythene bags eventually find their ways into drains, canals, rivers, parks and streets harming the environment.
He said mobile courts will be conducted against the use of plastic bags to enforce the Mandatory Jute Packaging law 2010.
BSS from Mymensingh adds: National Jute Day-2017 observed here yesterday with a call to regain the past glory of golden fibre for building a digital Bangladesh.
On the occasion a discussion meeting, organised by zonal jute office, was held at the auditorium of Deputy Commissioner this morning.
Deputy Commissioner M Khalilur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest while Assistant Director, Directorate of Jute, M Mahbub Hossain was in the chair. Deputy Commissioner said Banglaesh is heading towards in producing quality jute made products by using raw jute. At present the country has been exporting 131 kinds of different quality jute products in abroad and earned huge amount of foreign currencies.

The demand of jute made products has been increased in abroad. So the farmers of the region should come forward to cultivate jute to regain the past heritage, he said.
The government has taken various initiatives to increase jute production providing necessary inputs to the jute growers as well as development of the jute sector for the greater interest of the country.
