US keen to work on public health in city corporations, municipalities: Tajul

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam said that the USA has expressed keenness to work in public health sector in city corporation and municipality areas in Bangladesh.
The USA has expressed its eagerness to work in Bangladesh’s public health sector in the City Corporation and municipality areas under their Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, said a press release.
Tajul came up with the statement on Thursday after holding a meeting with US Ambassador Earl R Miller at his ministry office at the Secretariat here.
Welcoming the interest of USA, the minister told reporters that the programme has been launched in various European countries, including Singapore and the Philippines apart from the United States. The concerned US authorities said they would work on a model or philosophy in this regard in Bangladesh, said Tajul, adding that the decision will be taken later after reviewing the overall aspects. Earlier, the minister highlighted the unprecedented success of Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the US Ambassador and said that due to the steps taken by the government, Bangladesh has been able to cope with the coronavirus pandemic much better than other countries across the globe. He also mentioned that the largest relief operation in the history of the country has been carried out smoothly during the Corona period and people of all classes and professions including students, teachers and government officials have worked together at the call of the Prime Minister.
Referring to the foreign policy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that ‘Friendship to all, Malice to none’, he said Bangladesh is moving forward on the path of development by maintaining friendly relations with all the countries of the world including neighboring countries.
The US Ambassador also lauded the timely initiatives taken by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led government during the Covid-19 period, including various development activities. During the meeting, they also discussed issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
