LGRD Minister and ruling Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Friday said that the US and Canada have been playing the ‘double standard’ role on the issue of extraditing the killers of Bangabandhu.”These two countries often cite humanitarian concerns as an excuse whenever the issue of extraditing the Bangabandhu’s killers is raised. Whereas, they regularly execute death penalties in their own countries. Each and every month they award death penalties,” he said in reply to the queries of the newsmen.Syed Ashraf was talking to the newsmen after paying respects to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Gopalganj by placing floral wreaths at his grave on the occasion of National Mourning Day along with other party leaders. Mentioning that the US and Canada have provided shelter to Bangbandhu’s self-proclaimed killers, the LGRD Minister said, “A few days ago they had executed a death row convict for two and a half hours…. But they keep talking about our humanity, democracy and rule of law!”He further said that the slow pace of diplomatic process has also been delaying extradition of the Bangabandhu’s killers despite continuous efforts of the government. ” We will certainly bring back Bangabandhu’s killers. We are continuing our efforts in this regard,” he also said expressing optimism.
