BSS, Dhaka :
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said corruption must be uprooted to build ‘Golden Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“Corruption must be eliminated to build Golden Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu . . . we have to build a corruption free country for the new generations,” Mahmud said this on Thursday while speaking at a programme organised in observance of the National Mourning Day and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The ACC Chairman said it would be possible to pay true respect to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, if corruption related investigations rise above all sorts of lust and greed.
He said the ACC can bring a positive change in the society and the countrymen also believe so. Over 31 lakh people lodged complaints through ACC’s hotline-206 in the last two years because they have confidence in the ACC, he said, adding that the ACC could be a symbol of trust to the people if its officials perform their duties properly and sincerely.
All corruption related investigations must be completed within the stipulated time, he said, adding that if this procedure is not maintained, the corrupt people will get scope to continue their dishonest activities which in turn will build a negative image for the ACC.
“We all have to change our mentality positively and discharge our responsibilities properly being imbued with the importance and spirit of the national mourning day,” said the ACC chairman.
ACC Secretary Muhammad Delwar Bakht, Director General AKM Sohel and directors Syed Iqbal Hossain and Md Akhter Hossain spoke at the discussion, among others.
