Door to door campaign to woo voters at Nalchity

Electioneering in Nalchity upazila under Jhalakati district has reached momentum as the aspirants are now moving door to door for votes in the election to be held on March 23 for the fourth phase. The candidates along with their supporters are holding meetings at villages. They are also making different pledges to develop the upazila and take initiatives to improve people’s living standard. Local people and officials said the candidates both for the posts of chairman and vice chairman are making electioneering campaign by reaching to the door-steps of the voters, exchanging pleasantries with the voters, enquiring the voters’ well-beings and requesting them to cast their votes for ensuring electoral victory of the candidates.
The supporters of the candidates are distributing leaflets with the election symbols and photographs of the candidates among the local people especially the voters and trying to convince the voters to cast their votes in favour of the candidates. Mikings are being held from 2p.m. to 8p.m everyday for the same purposes. Apart from these, posters and festoons with the election symbols and photographs of the candidates are being hanged in all the road side corners and busy places in the upazila to draw the attention of the voters. Leaflets containing election pledges and candidate’s views regarding development of the areas are being distributed among the voters.
Nine candidates are contesting in the March 23 polls (Nalchity upazila Parishad election)which includes ten UPs and one Pourashava of 116596 voters. Of them, two will vie for chairman post, four for vice-chairman post and three for the post of vice-chairman reserved for women. The chairman candidates are Advocate Younus Lasker (AL), Advocate Anisur Rahman Khan Helal(BNP). The vice chairman candidates are Dulal Sharif(AL), Khandaker Wahidul Islam Badal(BNP), Shahdul Islam( BNP rebel). The female vice chairman candidates are Mrs. Dalia Nasrin(AL), Nasima Begum(AL rebel), Mrs. Nazma Begum Kali(BNP). Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Nalchity and assistant returning officer, Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arafin said, they are taking necessary measures to ensure a free, fair and credible election in the upazila. A total of 1,16,596 enlisted voters including 57,690 male and 58,906female voters are likely to cast their votes through 303 polling booths of the 62 vote centers in Nalchity upazila, he ensured.

Polls campaigns get momentum in Dakshin Surma

Election campaign in Sadar Upazila is getting momentum and the candidates are passing their busy times visiting people at their doorsteps seeking votes for the upcoming upazila election . Election of Dakshin Surma sadar upazila will be held on March 15 in the third phase.
The candidates are addressing meetings and rallies at different places and making pledges to win the heart of the voters. Six candidates will contest for chairman post, ten for vice-chairman and five for female vice-chairman posts. ‘I shall cast my vote in favor of honest qualified and dedicated candidates in the upazila election’ said Kawsar Ahmed, a voter of Moglabazar area in the upazila. Many other voters of several areas in the upazila expressed the same view.

Candidates urged to abide by code of conducts in Sylhet

Speakers in a function on Monday urged the candidates and their workers to abide by the electoral code of conducts in 4th upazila elections properly to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the pre and post election period.”The candidates and their workers may face different types of complexities including fine and conviction by the courts on charge of violating the electoral code of conduct in the election areas side by side with canceling his or her candidature”, they said.They made the comments while addressing a meeting organized by district election office on electoral code of conduct for the chairman and the vice chairman candidates in Dakshin Surma upazila polls at the conference room of Upazila office here in the afternoon.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Shohidul Islam who is the chief coordinator of the upazila polls-2014 here addressed the function as the chief guest while UNO Rashedur Rahamn Sordar presided over the meeting. The meeting was also addressed, among others, by additional police super, executive magistrate, upazila election officer, officer in charge of Dakshin Surma Thana Abu Shama Iqbal Hayet, officer in charge of Moglabazar Thana Md. Morsalin, chairman candidates Moulana Lukman Ahmed, Mohammed Abu Jahid, Ali Ahmed, ATM Foyez, Khaled Ahmed, Toyebur Rahman.
In the meeting, the DC said the mobile courts led by executive magistrates would have on patrolling in all the 10 unions of the upazila during the pre and post election period.
The four-tier security measures with the members of Army, RAB, BGB and police had been taken to hold the elections in the upazila on March 15 in third phase in a free, fair and neutral way, the DC added.Besides, many pragmatic decisions were also taken to hold the election in the upazila peacefully during the open discussion of the meeting.All the chairman and vice chairman candidates and their representatives and union parishad chairmen including journalists of print and electronic media participated at the meeting.
