AL bags 7, rival 5 in Sylhet

Awami League (AL) candidates won seven posts while rival independent candidate five post of upazila chairmen in the upazila elections held in twelve upazila parishads in the Sylhet district on Monday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Returning Officer Sondip Kumar Singh announced unofficial poll results of Sadar, Dakshin Surma, Biswnath, Balaganj, Fenchuganj, Golapganj, Bianibazar, Zakiganj, Kanaighat, Jointia, Goainghat and Companiganj upazila parishads at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room here Monday night.
According to unofficially announced results, AL candidate Alhaj Ashfak Ahmed, won chairman post of Sadar, Mohammad Abu Jahid won chairman post of Dakshin Surma, S.M Nunu Miah won chairman post of Biswnath, Mustakur Rahman Mofur won chairman post of Balaganj, Advocate Iqbal Ahmed Choudhury won chairman post of Golapganj, Abdul Mumin Chowdhury won chairman post of Kanaighat, Lukman Uddin Chowdhury won chairman post of Zakiganj upazila parisahd.
Rival independent candidate Nurul Islam won chairman post of Fenchuganj, Abul Kashem Pollob won chairman post of Bianibazar, Kamal Ahmed won chairman post of Jointia, Faruk Ahmed won chairman post of Goainghat and Shamim Ahmed won chairman post of Companiganj upazila parisahd.
The Returning Officer of Sylhet expressed satisfaction over successful holding of elections in 12 upazila parishads here Monday and thanked all concerned for their full cooperation.
