A union parishad member was gunned down by criminals in Sadar upazila of Gopalganj on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Hamidul Sharif, 45, a Ward 7 member of Gopinathpur union parishad, in the upazila.
Quoting witnesses Sadar Police Station inspector Hazrat Ali said a gang of criminals attacked Sharif in front of Gopinathpur High School at about 7.00pm and fired at him.
He was taken to a hospital where the on duty doctor declared him dead.
Police is investigating the matter and legal steps to be taken in this regard, said Hazrat Ali.
