UP member shot dead after abduction in Jhenaidah

Jhenaidah Correspondent :The police recovered the body of an abducted UP member from Mamunshia village on Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Monday morning. Identified as Abul Kalam, 40, son of late Mohammad Ali, from Balabaria village in Elangi union under Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenaidah district, he was a member of Elangi union council. Abul Kalam was abducted on last Friday.The deceased’s sister Hawwa Begum said, about 10 to 12 armed men, wearing white dress, swooped her brother from Signboard Bazaar area in Kotchandpur upazila town on April, 18. Sadly after his abduction, Kotchandpur police did not appear alert to rescue him. Kalam was backed by Jamaat-e-Islam in the union council election.She claimed that the abductors were in white dress. They shot her brother dead. It is noteworthy that on April 9, police arrested Kalam’s brother and Kotchandpur upazila Vice-Chairman Muawiah Hossain. He was Upazila Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islam.Officer-in-Charge (OC) Fazlur Rahman of Kotchandpur Police Station denied the accusation that police was indifferent to the abduction and about his rescue.
