A Union Parishad member was stabbed to death by miscreants in Patwary Haat in Sadar upazila on Friday night.
Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Sadar police Station, said a gang of miscreants attacked Faruk Hossain, a UP member of Ward No 2 of Uttar Hamchadi union and joint general secretary of the union unit of
Awami League, stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured while he was returning home around 11:30pm.
He was taken to Sadar Hospital and then being moved to Dhaka for better treatment, but died on the way.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy.
Amena Khatun, wife of Faruk, filed a murder case against nine named people, including Md Selim Patwary, president of Jubo League of the union unit, and eight unnamed people. Besides, police detained two people.
