Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Chairman of Perikhali Union Parishad under Rampal Upazila in the district and a local Awami League leader was suspended from the post of chairmanship on temporary basis.
It is learnt that a faxed letter sent by the Ministry of the Local Government Division on Sunday stated that Khadiza Aktar, a school teacher who was engaged in preparing the update voter lists of the union was physically assaulted by the UP Chairman.
In this connection a case was registered against the UP Chairman. By this time police investigated into the matter and submitted a chargesheet to the court. The case is now under trial in a court of Bagerhat.
The chairman is now under bail. The concerned Ministry suspended the UP Chairman from his post on the above charge.
Abu Rafa Md. Arif, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Rampal disclosed this to the the newsmen that he had received the faxed letter, issued by the Secretary of the Ministry of the Local Government.
