UP Chairman among 2 killed in Comilla

Unidentified miscreants shot and hacked two persons, including a Union parishad (UP) chairman, to death in a broad daylight in Gouripur of Daudkandi upazila in Comilla district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Monir Hossain Sarkar, 45, Chairman of Ziarkandi union in Titas upazila and his brother in-law Mohiuddin, 30.
Sumon Mia, 28, Ismail Hossain, 35, and Mohammad Ali, 20, also received injuries during the attack. They are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital and Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex, police said.
Quoting the witnesses, Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abu Salam Mia said, “A gang of miscreants attacked the microbus carrying Moniruzzaman and his associates near Gouripur auto-rickshaw stand area around 7:45am when they were going to Comilla town to appear in a court in a case. They pulled out Monir from his car and shot him while stabbed and shot Mohiuddin, leaving them critically injured. Both were rushed to Dhaka Medical Collaged Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.” At least 10 men opened fire targeting the car and hacked the occupants with sharp weapons before leaving the spot, the police official said.
DMCH Police Camp In-charge Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia said that doctors declared Monir and Mohiuddin dead after they were taken to DMCH. Among the others, Sumon Mia is in critical condition.
Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex’s Resident Medical Officer Habibur Rahman said, “Monir Hossain sustained multiple shots in his chest. Others also sustained injuries.” Daudkandi Model Police OC Abu Salam Mia said, “We have primarily identified the motive of the incident.” Police are continuing separate drives to arrest the killers, the police official said.
No body filed any case with the police station in this connection, he said. Additional police personnel were deployed in Gauripur area to avoid any untoward situation, the OC said.
The bodies were buried in their local graveyard at 8:30pm after postmortem at DMCH morgue, he said.
