Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj :
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Karimganj Manzur Hossain has been withdrawn.
UNO Manzur was accused of raping a college student while he was at UNO in Basail upazila of Tangail.
In this case, according to the letter of the Ministry of Public Administration, he has been assigned for the next post, said the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamim Alam. “We have already released him from Kishoreganj,” DC added.
Earlier, the student sent a legal notice to UNO Manzur Hossain along with an appeal to the Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry seeking redressal alleging rape. After the application, a committee was formed by the Ministry of Public Administration to investigate the incident. The victim is a resident of Mehera Union in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail.
The college student complained that in 2021, while she was UNO in Basail, she got acquainted with UNO through social media. At one point, UNO deliberately took the student to her official residence in Basail. There she was raped on the promise of marriage.
In the meanwhile, when the marriage proposal came from more than one place, the student rejected it on the advice of UNO. At one stage, the student and Manzur Hossain started living as husband and wife behind the power house near Kumudini College in Tangail. After staying there for two months, the victim pressured them to give social recognition through marriage. UNO then said that he would return to India and get married after his trip to India.
It is also learned that on the night of September 24, 2021, Manzur Hossain’s acquaintance Jobayet Hossain and the driver of the government vehicle Bulbul Hossain went to India through Benapole border on a medical visa. They returned to the country from India on October 12 of that year. Most of the time during their stay in India, they identified themselves as husband and wife. They took a house near Hyderabad Hospital in India and stayed there for treatment. At that time, the college student took out her passport from UNO’s personal bag and found out that Manzur Hossain was married and had two children. Asked about the matter to UNO, he said that he kept the marriage secret. After coming to Bangladesh from India on 12 October, they went to their respective homes. Later they met again at Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi. At this time Manzur Hossain again proposed to live as husband and wife.
