UNO of Barguna Sadar grants bail after accused for using distorted Bangabandhu’s portrait

Tariq Salman, presently working as upazila nirbahi officer Barguna Sadar and former UNO of Agoiljhara Barisal on Wednesday granted bail after surrendered before the court as an accused for using distorted portrait of Bangobondhu on invitation card.
Shakhawat Hossain, bench clerk of the court, acknowledging the facts said Ali Husain, Chief Metropalitan Magistrate (CMM) of Barisal, granted the bail against a bail bond of Tk 10 thousand at 2:30 PM Wednesday.
The court sources said a case was lodged in connection of an invitation card of Independence Day 2017, bearing the portrait of Bangabandhu drawn by winner of a children-juvenile painting competition.
The accused, the then UNO of Agoiljhara Upazila, used paintings of the children on invitation card of independence day 2017 to inspire them in patriotism.
Advocate Obaidullah Saju, religious affairs secretary of Barisal district Awami League and president of Barisal district lawyer’s Assocision, said he filed a defamation suit of Tk 5 core with CMM Court on June as complainant as the portrait of Bangobandhu used on that card was distorted .
The court accepting the case asked the accused to surrender before the court within July 27.
Advocate Mokhlesur Rahman, lawyer of the accused, said his client surrendering before the Barisal CMM court on Wednesday morning appealed for granting bail.
The accused claimed that the incident was not intentional and the invitation card was changed immediately after the objection rose.
Then the court asked the accused to submit supporting documents against his claim and staying under court custody till that.
