The Planning Commission (PC) has rejected the proposal of foreign tour by 30 government officials.
The officials were supposed to go abroad for training on building food warehouses across the country under a project of the food ministry.
Planning Commission member Begum Sharifa Khan confirmed the matter to media on Thursday.
She said the proposal for a foreign tour of the officials was described as “unnecessary” at a meeting of the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) last Tuesday.
“We have rejected the proposal of foreign trips,” Sharifa, who chaired the PEC meeting, said.
The food ministry earlier sent the proposal to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) titled “Construction of new food warehouses and additional facilities in different strategic places of the country”, to build 196 food warehouses at a cost of Tk 693 crore.
An allocation of Tk 2.70 crore was sought for the foreign trip of the 30 officials.
The allocation for foreign tours of officials to take part in training, meetings, and seminars on taxpayers’ money has been on the rise every year.
Every year, approximately Tk 2,200 crore is spent on foreign tours for government officials.
