Chattogram Bureau :
Newly appointed Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Ashraf Uddin said the country is on the highway of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The government has set up economic zones in various places including Mirsarai to attract local and foreign investment in the private sector, provide assistance and improve the environment to build a better Bangladesh of Bangabandhu’s dream by 2041.
As a result, on the one hand job creation of unemployed and on the other hand Bangladesh will reach a respectable level in the world. However, there will be no new factories and industrial establishments in any residential area and agricultural land.
He said this while addressing the 6th meeting of the Divisional Investment and Business Development Assistance Committee held at the conference room of the Divisional Commissioner on Thursday. He said that if new and young entrepreneurs want to invest in Chittagong, they have to follow the policy of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) by identifying potential areas. However, they should refrain from investing in places where the environment is harmed.
Entrepreneurs attracted to the investment will easily get other government services including environmental certificate, electricity and gas connection, construction permit, required bank loan, land acquisition and registration.
Since the bidder does not have a bank of its own, it can be recommended even if the entrepreneurs cannot arrange direct loans. However, the divisional commissioner urged the entrepreneurs to be careful not to fall into the clutches of middlemen in the name of getting bank loans. Bangladesh Development Authority (BIDA) Chittagong Divisional Office Director General Mohammad Yasin highlighted the discussions, decisions and progress of the last 5th meeting. Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Additional DIG of Chittagong Range of Police Iqbal Hossain, Joint Director of Bangladesh Bank Chittagong Syed Saifur Rahman, among others addressed the meeting.
