Smiling Hearts Clinic is the first ever Heart Failure clinic launched at United Hospital under a strategic partnership agreement with Medtronic International Ltd, said a press release.
This clinic will primarily focus on Heart Failure patients assessing their disease condition, severity, treatment progress and quality of life. Those who are at risk of developing heart failure will also be screened and counseled here for the potential threat of the disease.
Dedicated doctor, nurses and patient counselor will work at this clinic in United Hospital Cardiac Centre where both out-patient and in-patient services will be provided, the press release said.
Faridur Rahman Khan, Managing Director of United Hospital Limited and Omar Ishraq, Chairman & CEO of Medtronic signed the agreement on behalf of each of their organizations. Omar Ishrak expressed his pleasure in partnering with United Hospital for this unique initiative to serve and educate the heart failure population of Bangladesh. Faridur Rahman Khan, Managing Director of United Hospital reiterated his support for such noble gestures for helping and providing hope for the heart failure patients of the community. Dr Momenuzzaman, Chief Cardiology Consultant and Dr Jahangir Kabir, Chief Cardiac Surgeon of United Hospital also spoke on the occasion. Senior management staff from both United Hospital and Medtronic were present on the ceremony.
With increase in life expectancy and aging population in Bangladesh, Heart Failure patients are increasing in number as a result of heart disease itself and also as a result of other increasing co-morbidity like diabetes, kidney disease and Chronic obstructive lung disease. United Hospital Cardiac Centre being the largest heart treatment facility in the country’s private sector, has a large number of heart failure patients attending every day.
