UNIDO to continue support for inclusive growth: Li Yong

Visiting Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Yong on Wednesday said the UNIDO would continue to provide support for Bangladesh in achieving sustainable industrial development and inclusive growth.
“Cooperation between Bangladesh and the UNIDO would grow further through effective partnership in the coming days,” he said during a call on Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at the foreign ministry here, a press release said.
Terming Bangladesh’s socio-economic progress ‘very encouraging’, UNIDO Director General appreciated Bangladesh’s role in the UNIDO and its strong support to the organization’s policies and strategies.
He also underscored the need for support to develop the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh.
A former Chinese public servant, Li Yong will assume his second term as UNIDO DG in November 2017.
The foreign minister sought more support of UNIDO for the enhancement of Bangladesh’s industrial productivity, with quality improvements to ensure export competitiveness in different sectors.
