Many food items are being prepared and sold under the open sky and in an unhygienic condition here. Most of the restaurants, bakeries and Confectioneries are not following government rules in this connection, it was alleged. As a result, people’s health is at stake and they are suffering from various infest:
It was found that many food shops have been set up here and there in Upazela head quarters, business are as and beside roads and bus stands at Zebonnagar, Munshigonj, Damurhuda, Darsana, Utholi, Alamdanga, Nilmonigonj, Sarajgonj, Bodorgonj, Dingadaha, Gokulkhali, Valaipur, Karpasdanga areas. These restaurants are running with no legal permission from the competent authorities and are evading the value added Tax (vat) rules.
It was further found that owners of the food shops cook food using low quality items and amid substandard condition. While visiting the restaurants at different places of the district, this our correspondent saw that the workers preserve water in plastic drums and serve the same to the consumers dipping their unclean hand in the water and as a result, the water becomes contaminated and increases heath hazards.
