Rajshahi Sonadighi High School clinched the Clear Men Under-17 Football Championship title beating BAF Shaheen College by a solitary goal in the final at the Bir Shreshta Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on Saturday.
Biplob Tirki scored the matchwinner for outsiders Sonadighi High in the 68th minute by a meritorious header, off a free-kick by Probir Kumar to the frustration of the renowned educational institution of Dhaka.
Captain of the champions Sonadighi High School Jogen Lakra scored nine goals in the tournament, receiving the “Golden Boot” while midfielder Probir, of the assist in the final, was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
Vice President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahi was the chief guest in the final and later he distributed the prizes. Director (Personal Care) of Unilever Nafis Anwar was also present on the occasion.
Earlier in the place-deciding match, Bagerhat Collegiate School finished 3rd beating Rangpur Jila School by 4-2 goals as the match was locked in 1-1 goal in the stipulated period.
In the semifinals on Thursday, Rajshahi Sonadighi High School reached final defeating Rangpur Jila School by 2-0 goals while BAF Shaheen College managed a final berth beating Bagerhat Collegiate School by 3-2 goals in tie breaker as the match was locked in 1-1 goals in the stipulated period.
More than 3,000 promising booters from 272 school teams from all over the country took part in the month long school football tournament, sponsored by world number one men’s shampoo Clear Men, and organized by Bangladesh Football Federation.
BFF will pick a squad of 26 talented players from the meet for a long term special training programme.
