BSS, Dhaka :
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury lauded United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)’s role in reducing maternal and child mortality rate along with preventing early marriage in Bangladesh.
She said this when UNFPA Asia-Pacific Director Yoriko Yasukawa called on her at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office here.
The Speaker said UNFPA’s continued support played a positive role in different sectors including maternal and children health and expressed the hope that UNFPA’s support would be increased in the days to come.
“Preventing early marriage is possible by creating awareness through parliament members, saying maternal mortality rate would come down significantly if we can prevent early marriage,” she said.
The UNFPA director expressed satisfaction over population control and gender balance in Bangladesh and assured its continued cooperation in socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
