UNFPA Executive Director arrives in city today

Dr. Natalia Kanem makes her first visit to Bangladesh on Monday as Executive Director of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. Dr. Kanem became UNFPA head last year with the rank of United Nations Under-Secretary-General.
During her brief visit, she will meet with the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, the parliament Speaker and the Ministers of Health and Foreign Affairs.
She will also have consultative meetings with UN agencies, development partners, civil society and media to share her views on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and the upcoming 25th year of the International Conference on Population and Development.
During her meetings she will engage in conversations on Bangladesh’s current maternal health, family planning, adolescent and youth, gender equality and population issues.
She will also visit Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camps and meet with Rohingya women and girls at UNFPA-supported reproductive health clinics and Women Friendly Spaces.
