UNFPA Debate Festival orgainised by Debate for Democracy concluded on Tuesday at NAEM Campus in the capital. Issues related to reproductive health, social development, gender-based violence, women empowerment, investment in youth were covered in the debate topics. Eight debate teams from renowned colleges of Dhaka city took part in the festival.
UNFPA Representative Argentina Matavel Piccin presided over the program. Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairperson of Debate for Democracy moderated the debate session as Speaker of the mock parliament.
Vikarunnesa Noon College defeated Holly Cross College in the final debate session. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid attended the closing session as chief guest and distributed prizes to the champion and runner up teams. The prize includes trophy, crest, cash money and certificate
In his speech Education Minister appreciated the creativity of young people and acknowledged their success in building knowledge based society. The Minister mentioned that Bangladesh has achieved gender equality in primary education.
UNFPA Representative Argentina Matavel Piccin emphasized on investment for youth to sustain the advancement of the country. She also mentioned that UNFPA will continue its support for engaging the youth in creative activities.
Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron mentioned that the young people should must move ahead for advancement of the country y and they have to play active role in building a peaceful and prosparious society.
