Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid lauded the role of outgoing UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova in inscribing the historic 7th March Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Register of the Memory of the World (MoW).
He came up with the admiration on Monday while paying a call on Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO, at her office at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The minister also commended the role of Bokova in various issues for taking the position of UNESCO to a new height during her eight-year tenure.
Nahid conveyed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s good wishes and appreciation to Bokova for her continuous support and cooperation towards Bangladesh with a special emphasis on Bokova’s contribution in inscribing the historic 7th March Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Register of the Memory of the World (MoW).
Irina Bokova also commended the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in bringing Bangladesh to a significant position at the national and international level.
She will be leaving the position of the UNESCO director general on this November 10 this year, after discharging her responsibilities for last eight years.
Nahid was accompanied by Secondary and Higher Education Secretary Md Sohorab Hossain, Bangladesh Ambassador to France Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO Secretary Md Monjur Hossain, among others.
The minister is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the ongoing 39th Session of the UNESCO General Conference.
