UNDP can play significant role to attain SDGs: Speaker

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) and also the Chairperson of executive committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said here on Tuesday the UNDP as a development partner could play significant role to help Bangladesh in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Bangladesh has already achieved the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
It will definitely attain the SDGs in which the UNDP could play a vital role as a development partner,” she said at a function arranged for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UNDP at her JS office here.
Senior Secretary of Bangladesh JS Secretariat Dr Md Abdur Rob Hawlader and UNDP Residential Representative Sudipto Mukharjee signed the MoU.
The Speaker informed the UNDP representative of the upcoming 63rd CPA Conference which is scheduled to be held in Dhaka on November 1 to 8 this year.
Dr Sharmin also informed the UNDP representative of the fruitful discussions about the Rohingya issues with the UN Secretary General, and former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan during her recent visit to the United States.
The UN representative hoped for complete success of the upcoming CPA conference and keened to work together with the JS Secretariat to enhance efficiency and boost leadership quality among the JS Secretariat officials after imparting them with proper training to attain the SDGs.
