Unauthorised persons asked to stop using RCS, BDRCS symbols

Speakers at a meet the press function here yesterday urged the common people not to use the symbolS of Red Cross Society (RCS) and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) for business purposes.
“RCS and BDRCS symbols are being misused by registered physicians and rural medicine practitioners, apart from hospitals, pharmacies, doctors’ chambers and ambulances of the country out of ignorance,” they said.
They made the observations while exchanging views with journalists working with different media of the country at the office of Gaibandha Red Crescent office.
BDRCS, Gaibandha unit, arranged the function in collaboration with International Relations and Communication Department and International Committee of Red Cross.
Gaibandha Zila Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata, and also chairman of local BDRCS, and secretary of the unit Rezaul Karim Reza addressed the function, among others.
Enayetullah Ekram Palash, assistant director of BDRCS, read out a prescribed statement on countrywide campaign to stop the abuse of the symbols of Red Cross and Red Crescent in details.
Palash said only RCS and BDRCS personnel engaged in the rescue of people affected by manmade and natural disasters are entitled to use the symbols taking permission of the authorities concerned.
Secretary Rezaul Karim Reza put emphasis on creating awareness among the common people and building a social movement so that they could not use the symbols for their own interest.
Ataur Rahman Ata sought whole hearted cooperation of the journalists and urged them to publish positive reports in their respective media so that the people would refrain from misusing the symbols of the RCS and BDRCS.
A good number of journalists of the print and electronic media including the national news agency took part in the function.
