Commentary: UN and WHO must be more active to develop world leadership to fight coronavirus

It is most heartless that the rich world as never before is disunited and every country for itself. The US President Donald Trump had faced no difficulty in suspending its funding to constrain activities of World Health Organisation in fighting worldwide deadly pandemic.
Mr Trump is destroying America’s greatness as the world leader. To every country its own interest comes first. But to be so to the President of the United States of America is to give up its world leadership in favour of Russia or China.
We are sure that the American people will not be ready to give up its greatness in its international role. We expect the Congress to come down on him strongly without loss of time.
We are confident that the World Health Organisation will have funds from other countries. It has its own appeal and need for the health services of the world. We think that WHO is actively helping the countries needing help most.
It is so unkind that the world is in a situation where the highest bidder gets medical supplies which are most essential — like N95 masks and PPEs, to help medical teams fighting to restrain the spread of coronavirus.
But these are business centres and profit is their uppermost consideration. If the world leaders had behaved sympathetically things would have been different.
In our common sense view this borderless fast moving coronavirus will not be defeated by one country however rich and resourceful it may be. In fighting coronavirus separately and alone the world is going wrong.
We do not expect the present world leaders will change their attitudes to put an end to their short sighted and ineffective policy. We are not big experts but our common sense view is no country alone will be successful to save its people from this fast spreading pandemic.
The world gets ready to fight the coronavirus globally to hope success. The leaders of resourceful countries must realise that we are in this deadly crisis together. No single country, however rich and resourceful, can defeat the enemy all by itself.
The world leaders have to be realistic and fight the global pandemic globally.
Millions could die without a more-coordinated global response, including helping countries that are poor and less prepared, to tackle the crisis.
