UK to help BD in facing climate change challenges: British envoy

United Kingdom will help Bangladesh in facing climate change and river erosion challenges, British High Commissioner in Bangladesh assured this at a meeting with the Barisal City Corporation on Sunday.
Robert W Gibson CMG, British High Commissioner in Bangladesh on Sunday in a day-long courtesy visit in Barisal also met with the high administrative officials at the divisional commissioner’s office and exchanged views with Abul Hasanat Abdullah , District AL President and Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman of local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative about the British funded development projects.
In the meeting at BCC, the British High Commissioner said, UK -Bangladesh bilateral relationships increasing day by day since emerge of the country in 1971.
At present half million Bangladeshi people living in Britain and making notable contributions in developing the both countries to a road to prosperity.
About the ready made garment sectors of Bangladesh, the British High Commissioner, said this sector in Bangladesh is dynamic and advancing even after the disaster like Rana Plaza.
Bangladesh has natural climatic problems like climate change effects and river erosion. UK will assist BD through different development agencies in facing these challenges.
The disaster management and cautionary signaling systems in Bangladesh developed and so causality of lives notably reduced during cyclone Sidr and Aila than the disaster of 1970’s Gorky , the British High Commissioner explained. The British High Commissioner left Barisal in the afternoon.
