UK polls victory PM greets Tulip, Rushanara, Rupa

UNB, Dhaka :Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday greeted the granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tulip Siddiq, Rushanara Ali and Rupa Huq, the three Bangladesh-origin candidates, for being elected in the UK parliamentary polls held on Thursday.PM’s Special Assistance Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told UNB that in a congratulatory message the Prime Minister said that these wins glorify the participation of migrant Bangladeshis in British politics.Tulip’s aunty Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinaexpressed gratitude to those who work hard for the victory of Tulip who supported her from home and abroad, helped and sought blessing for her win.A beaming Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, also congratulated her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, the mother of Tulip.Tulip Siddiq bagged 23,977 against her Conservative counterpart Simon Marcus’ 22,839 votes in the Hampstead and Kilburn constituency.Rushanara Ali, the first British lawmaker with roots in Bangladesh, was re-elected as the MP of Bethnal Green and Bow with a majority of 24,317 votes.Labour Party candidate Dr Rupa Huq got 22,002 votes. While her rival Conservative Party backed Angie Bray obtained 21,728 votes.
