UK gets 1st BD-origin HC judge

A Bangladesh-origin British citizen has been appointed as a Justice of the United Kingdom High Court.
The Queen Elizabeth II has appointed Akhlaq Ur-Rahman Choudhury QC as a Justice of the High Court with effect from October 2 consequential to the elevation of Sir Gary Robert Hickinbottom to the Court of Appeal.
The Lord Chief Justice will assign Akhlaq Ur-Rahman Choudhury to the Queen’s Bench Division, according to Courts and Tribunals Judiciary.
Akhlaq Ur-Rahman Choudhury, 50, will be known as Justice Choudhury. He was called to the Bar (I) in 1992 and took Silk in 2015. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2009 and as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2016.
