UGC urged to play key role for quality edn

President Abdul Hamid on Thursday urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) to play its due role in ensuring the quality of education in the country’s universities.
The President made the directive when a delegation, led by UGC chairman Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury, submitted its annual report 2013 to him at Bangabhaban, President’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim told UNB after the meeting.
During the meeting, the UGC chairman apprised Abdul Hamid that there are currently 37 public and 80 private universities in the country having 26 lakh students.
The delegation apprised the President of some of problems the UGC is now facing.
Abdul Hamid assured the delegation of his all-out cooperation in resolving the problems.
