UGC holds meeting with VCs of public varsities

University Grants Commission (UGC) held a view exchange meeting with the vice-chancellors of public universities regarding the current situation and other issues related to universities at UGC Auditorium on Monday. UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan presided over the meeting.
The meeting began with the observance of one minute silence in paying homage to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Gulshan and Sholakia. UGC Chairman welcomed the Vice-Chancllors at the meeting. Vehemently condemning the militant activities at university level the Vice-Chancellors said that university authorities will extend all kinds of helps and assistance to the government to root out militancy and extremism. The Vice-Chancellors urged the UGC to play pro-active role in solving the various problems of the universities and sought cooperation and assistance of the government about the overall security of the universities.
Vice-Chancellors informed the UGC Chairman of various professional demands of the teachers. Assuring the Vice-Chancellors regarding the demands, UGC Chairman said that the demands are under active consideration of UGC. He informed the meeting that UGC will discuss the matter with the government at a convenient time. UGC Chairman urged the Vice-Chancellors to closely monitor the militant activities and curb extremism at university level.
UGC Members Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, Prof Dr Md. Alauddin, President, Association of University of Bangladesh and Vice-Chancellor, Mowlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Vice-Chancellors of different public universities, UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled and high officials of UGC, among others were present.
