UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan underscored the need for transforming the pool of human being into human resources by equipping them with updated knowledge and skills. He said, Bangladesh now has sixty five percent population below the age of 35 years. Referring to the objectives of higher education, UGC Chairman said that the main purpose of the university is creation of new knowledge, storage and knowledge and dissemination of knowledge.
Prof Mannan as Chief Guest inaugurated a two-daylong ‘Peer Reviewers’ Training Workshop’ organized by Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), UGC held at UGC auditorium on Sunday. Dr Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank attended the workshop as Special Guest. Dr Rozilini Fernandez-Chung, Help University, Malaysia was present as Guest of Honour. Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohantha ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), HEQEP presided over the function.
Prof Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Quality Assurance Unit, UGC delivered the welcome address.
Dr Rozilini Fernandez-Chung, an internationally renowned expert on quality assurance will conduct the workshop on training of peer reviewers, who are going to review the self assessment reports coming from different universities under HEQEP.
29 directors/additional directors from 13 public and private universities of the country are taking part in the workshop. Officials of UGC and HEQEP were present on the occasion.
