Xinhua, Dubai :
Chinese information and communications technology (ICT) giant Huawei signed here Tuesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Emirates Telecommunication Corporation Etisalat on joint projects in public cloud computing and information networks.
The MoU was signed at the ongoing 34th Gitex technology week in Dubai, which is the biggest ICT exhibition in the Middle East.
“By teaming up with Huawei, we are looking to explore possibilities of deploying technologies that provide advanced value added services and ultimately improve our customer’s overall experience. It is part of our commitment to our customers and consequently, to our nation,” said Saeed Al-Zarouni, the senior vice president of business planning and technology evolution at Etisalat.
Peng Xiongji, the general manager of Huawei UAE based in Dubai said that leveraging Huawei’s strengths in providing end-to-end ICT solutions and its heritage in research and development, this agreement would help “to further advance services offerings to individuals and enterprises across the UAE while at the same time supporting Etisalat to reap the maximum value of its future network investments.”
Etisalat and Huawei have worked on numerous landmark projects in the Middle East telecommunications sector over the past 10 years. The two companies had previously collaborated on the rollout of Etisalat’s 4G LTE (long-term evolution) mobile networks, which is the standard for high speed wireless connectivity for mobile phones and data terminals.
