20,000 fish fry released in Halda River

Hathazari Upazila authority led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ruhul Amin released more than 20,000 pieces of fish fries in Halda River on Tuesday .
Upazila administration has taken initiatives to release one lakh fish fries in Halda River in phases aimed at increasing the volume of fish stocks in the river . Halda river is the country’s only fish breeding centre situated over Hathazari & Raozan upazila territory of Chattogram.
The fish fries to be processed in the local hatcheries from fish spawn that collected from Halda earlier. As a part of this fish fry releasing programs, 10,000 fish f ries each at at Sattarghat and Garduara points of the Halda River on Tuesday last. The remaining 80,000 fries will be released in phases at other points of the river in due time, Hathazari UNO Md. Ruhul Amin added. It is learnt that fries of carp fishes were released earlier through buying from outside but now initiatives taken to process the fish spawn by the upazila administration . UNO Ruhul Amin told that spawn was released by mother fishes in Halda on May 25 last .
 Local Hathery owners procured the spawn aimed at processing in their own hatcheries on local process of earthen water reservoirs. The length of fries now stand at 6″which were released in two points of Halda. UNO told t his reporter that this new initiatives of releasing fries was taken this year by upazila authority.
Coordinator of Chattogram University Halda River Research Laboratory Prof Dr Manzurul Kibria praised the new ideas of the upazila administration. The UNO accompanied by Garduara UP Chairman and the local media persons, local sources added.
