A court here on Monday sentenced two people to life term imprisonment for killing a businessman in 2006.
The convicts were identified as Jahir Uddin, son of Atar Ali, and Zia Uddin , son of Ruhul Amin, both residents of Korerhat area in Mirsarai upazila of the district.
The court also fined them Tk20,000 each, in default, two years more RI. According to the prosecution, the convicts Jahir and Zia beat up a shopkeeper, Anwar Hossain, a resident of the same village, mercilessly when he demanded some money back which he had lent them on November 21, 2006, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, he was rushed to Mirsarai upazila health complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The victim’s mother Salma Khatun filed a case against Jahir and Zia with Mirsarai Police Station next day.
On March 2007, police submitted a charge-sheet against them.After examining 14 witnesses and documents, Public Security Tribunal and Special District and Sessions Judge M Mominullah handed down the verdict.
Minor boy killed in road accident: An eight-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a covered van in city’s Baizid area yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rakib, son of Nasar Ali, and hailed from Amtoli Colony area under city’s Baizid thana.
