Two to die for killing AUST student

The District and Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Monday sentenced two Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) students to death and two others to life term imprisonment for killing Subid Chandra Das, also a student of AUST in 2013.
The death sentenced convicts are: Farhad Hossain alias Sizu and
Mohammad Hasan, two classmates of Subid and they were sentenced in their absence. The life-sentenced convicts are Shafiq Ahmed Robin and Kamrul Hasan alias Shaon. They were also fined Tk 5,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer one month more in the prison. Dhaka’s District and Sessions Judge SM Quddus Zaman handed down the verdict yesterday (Monday). However, the court acquitted Robin’s wife Lutfa Akhter Sony, as the charge could not be proved against her beyond all doubts
According to the prosecution, the convicts strangulated Subid 22, son of Gouranga Chandra Das, due to previous enmity on January 21, 2013. The body was found near a brick kiln in Kotalia village of Savar, on the bank of river, on the outskirts of the capital, on the following day.
The victim’s father Gouranga Chandra Das filed the case against the accused with Savar Police Station. The trial began after framing the charge against the five accused on April 11.
Of the 27 accused in the case 17 testified and after examining the records and depositions of the witnesses, the judge pronounced the verdict.
