Two-third prisoners in jail sans trial: Sultana

Noted human rights activist Sultana Kamal on Sunday said, two-thirds of the prisoners are in the jails sans trial.
“Jails are overflowing with nearly three times more inmates than their capacity. And of them two-thirds are there without trial,” Sultana Kamal said.She said this at a seminar titled “Human Rights, Constitution and Bangladesh” held in the Ranada Prasad Shaha University in Narayanganj city on Sunday, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
Vice-Chancellor of Ranada Prasad Shaha University Monindra Kumar Ray presided over the programme while Chairman of Board of Trustees of the university Razib Proshad Shaha and Adviser Abu Md Shahid Khan addressed the programme, among others.
Sultana Kamal said, a good number of people, who are now in the jails, have been receiving pains for no reason.
 “Extra judicial killings are continuing unabated in the country. This is a matter of grave concern,”
Referring to the Digital Security Act, she said, “Freedom of thought and Freedom of expression are now being badly restricted in the country.”
